If you are in distress because ACT! is misbehaving, we recommend
the following: (We are serious about this.)
First
Walk away. Do not trouble-shoot when your are angry or upset. Shut
the computer down. Grab a cup of coffee. Talk to your boss or co-workers.
Breathe deeply and relax.
Second
Copy the "sick" database to a local drive.
NEVER trouble shoot the live database. Back-up again to be certain
your original data will not be destroyed.
Third
Try to open the copied database. If it opens,
and works, cheer "Rah." Copy the database back to the server. If
not, proceed to step four.
Fourth
Document (write down) the difficulty. Take
screen shots of any error message your receive. Write down the system
information including operation system, version of virus software
protector and the current ACT! database build. Note any other software
that is running in the background. Also try to determine if an event,
like the installation of a new operating system, occurred prior
to the problems.
